You should not think that someone would have issues counting to 500. Maybe the slave got distracted by the look of Mistress Amandara, or maybe it was the pain that got to him. Never the less, this slaves counting got all messed up. And what happens when not clear how many strokes left? Then more strokes are added to the originally planned 500.
